Catena-X: the data ecosystem transforming the automotive industry

May 25, 2026 | Data space

One of the clearest examples of how data spaces are becoming an industrial reality is Catena-X.

Catena-X is the first open and collaborative data ecosystem designed specifically for the automotive industry. Its goal is to enable manufacturers, suppliers and service providers to exchange data in a secure, standardised and sovereign way across the entire value chain. In practice, this means that organisations can collaborate more efficiently without losing control over their own information.

This is particularly relevant in a sector where traceability, sustainability, supply chain visibility and regulatory compliance are becoming increasingly important. From digital battery passports and CO₂ tracking to quality management and logistics traceability, the ability to share trusted data between organisations has become a strategic necessity.

However, ecosystems such as Catena-X can only function if all participants operate under common rules and shared standards. This is where interoperability, conformity assessment and validation play a fundamental role.

As a Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) for Catena-X, SQS contributes to building the level of trust required for organisations to exchange data securely and reliably within complex industrial ecosystems.

Data spaces are evolving rapidly, but their growth will largely depend on something that is very easy to understand and very difficult to build: verifiable trust.
