Bizkaia becomes an International Hub for the Data Economy

Jun 4, 2026 | Data space

Bizkaia is set to strengthen its strategic position as a benchmark for digital innovation with the upcoming edition of Data Economy Week, taking place from 9 to 11 June. Coordinated by BAIDATA, this international event will bring together professionals, businesses, and institutions to discuss the development and sovereignty of data. As BAIDATA partners, we will be taking part in this key gathering, which aims to foster collaboration, innovation, and the advancement of data spaces across Europe.

Going beyond the traditional conference format, Data Economy Week will serve as a platform where the data economy is put into practice through three major sector milestones.

9 June: Alliance for the Industrial Digital Twin

Data Economy Week will kick off with the international conference “Sovereign Data Spaces”, jointly organised by BAIDATA, the Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA), and IDSA.

The event will explore how current technological standards are enabling the development of real-world applications in strategic sectors, with particular focus on the Digital Product Passport and new models for secure information exchange between companies. Discussions will highlight industrial modernisation, compliance with European regulations, and data interoperability in production environments.

10 June: Bilbao at the Centre of the Global Data Debate

The second day will feature the “Data Spaces Decade Gathering”, the official event marking IDSA’s tenth anniversary, bringing together international leaders, experts, and organisations involved in the development of data spaces.

As part of the programme, a new edition of the Global Round Table will also take place, further establishing Bilbao as a leading venue for international dialogue on data geopolitics and digital sovereignty.

The day will conclude with an institutional gala dinner and networking event celebrating IDSA’s tenth anniversary, bringing together international representatives, businesses, and key stakeholders from the European ecosystem.

11 June: 5th BAIDATA Forum – “Data Spaces in Action”

The week will close with the V BAIDATA Forum, organised in collaboration with IDSA under the theme “Data Spaces in Action.”

The forum will showcase real-world examples of data space implementation in both companies and public administrations, demonstrating the transition from pilot projects to fully operational and secure information-sharing models.
