SQS appointed as Catena-X Conformity Assessment Body: building trust in automotive data ecosystems

Mar 26, 2026 | Automotive

Industry is entering a new phase where data ecosystems are becoming part of everyday operations. In sectors like automotive, collaboration increasingly depends on the ability to share data securely and in a way that different systems can actually use across the value chain. Initiatives like Catena-X are helping make this possible in practice.

Why Catena-X matters

Catena-X is the first open and collaborative data ecosystem designed specifically for the automotive industry. It provides a framework for companies to exchange data in a standardized and secure way, while keeping full control over their own information.

This approach supports areas that are becoming critical across the industry, such as traceability of products and components, sustainability and carbon footprint tracking, supply chain resilience, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

For this to work in practice, one element is essential: trust.

The role of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs)

When multiple organizations are connected through data, everyone needs to follow the same rules and interpret them in the same way.

This is where Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) play a key role.

CABs are independent organizations that verify whether companies, solutions and services comply with Catena-X requirements. This includes aspects such as interoperability between systems, information security, data sovereignty and adherence to defined standards.

Their work helps ensure that the ecosystem functions reliably, consistently and securely for all participants.

SQS as a Catena-X CAB

The appointment of SQS as a Conformity Assessment Body reflects its growing involvement in data spaces and certification.

In this role, SQS will work with organizations to:

  • Interoperability validation: assessing whether digital systems meet Catena-X specifications for secure and reliable data exchange.
  • Information security verification: ensuring that participating organizations comply with recognized security standards, including ISO 27001 and TISAX.

In increasingly connected environments, certification is what allows organizations to work together.

  • It gives companies the confidence to share data.
  • It helps ecosystems grow in a consistent way.
  • It supports the development of new value chains built around data.

SQS brings experience in software quality, cybersecurity, embedded systems and data interoperability, working alongside organizations as they adapt to these changes.
